CHARACTER NAME: The Doctor (AKA Shalka!Doctor, AU!Ninth Doctor, REG!Doctor) Alias: John Smith
CANON: Doctor Who
TIMELINE: Post-"Feast of the Stone".
AGE: around 1000 (though no age is explicitly stated in his canon - 7th Doctor is seen reading his 900 year Diary in the TV Movie), He looks mid to late-50s

REFERENCE: Scream of the Shalka (2003) / Alternate Ninth Doctor Note: this is a completely alternate version of the Doctor presented to the fandom before the NuWho era began (2005), as such, nothing from NuWho in any way impacts or changes this Doctor's history, NuWho literally doesn't exist for him. (Significantly: no "timeless children", no "war Doctor", no Time War, and changing gender at regeneration is rare/only happens in particular situations, etc.) Due to these extreme differences, it does not make sense to link wiki pages that have been heavily edited to incorporate the new history over the original history.

PERSONALITY: The Doctor's primary motivation is saving and protecting people. Not too long ago, events tied to a great battle led to the death of his last companion (nothing else is known about her). Therefore, he does not want to get as involved with people on an individual basis. He took on Alison, more because she proved herself than because he felt he needed someone in his life. (Though the Android!Master would disagree with this.) In fact, he specifically asks her why she didn't sacrifice herself so that he wouldn't have to reveal his weakness (that he will always try to save people) to the 'monsters'. It disgusts him that the monsters seem to know him better than his companions/closest friends. He doesn't want to lose any more people and doesn't want people dying because of him or on his behalf - monsters always recognise this aspect of him.

While he is more sarcastic, serious, and even angry than most other incarnations of the Doctor, he also expresses his affections and empathy more freely. Kissing people on their hands or foreheads is common for him if he finds he likes and cares for them.

During his fight with the vampiric entity in "Feast of the Stone", the Doctor allowed all of the evils the Master ever committed to flow through his brain. He saw everything the Master ever did (especially the horrors and atrocities). It is a new burden for him and only adds to the weight of doubt he's felt since the death of his last companion. The way in which he allowed this to happen (deactivating the Android!Master to stop the vampiric entity from accessing him and then using the TARDIS as a conduit to allow the evil to flow through himself) caused a rift between himself and Alison, as he didn't tell her the horrors he experienced in order to save her, so she thinks he took the 'easy way out' to save her by 'switching off' the Android!Master. In fact, she asks him, "What happens when you have to turn me off?" (A question never answered in canon.)

Given these recent events, the Doctor really isn't interested in trying to save his own life. In fact, he sees death as something he deserves for his failings. He's not necessarily suicidal, but he hovers close to that line. He's used up his "nine lives" and since he's been getting companions killed, he feels its "apt I don't continue." He's also well on his way to becoming an alcoholic and treats his depression and things he would rather forget by drinking.

Harming or killing people needlessly is the quickest way to anger him, or motivate him to take action - depending on the situation. But more generally, people (especially humans) behaving like primitive idiots will earn his annoyance. He just doesn't have the time or the energy for nonsense any longer. However, the anger he expresses is mostly projection: to keep others away and it reveals how angry he is with himself.

That said, he will sometimes take drastic actions to save people: Killing thousands of Shalka to save humans (even though he claims to not be a killer), letting the Master's evil deeds pour through his mind, etc. Sometimes the most terrible things he has done or experienced, he will never share with others. They are his secrets and he doesn't believe anyone else should have to face them. As shown above, this causes strain on relationships because people don't know just how much he will do to save them, nor how much he suffers because of these burdens.

He will initially react negatively to anyone who seems to have a military background. They might be able to win him over, but it will take work. While he's exceptionally sarcastic, he will work with others and tame his sarcasm to 'play nice', if it leads to solving a problem quickly. His companion's death still weighs heavily on his mind and in his hearts, so anyone trying to get too close will find him to share very little about himself.

Anyone from 'NuWho' will be unknown and unrecognised by him. Experiences/people/etc from ClassicWho are from his history. NOTE: While there have been many fan-theories and other off-hand comments (in DWM) made about events in this Doctor's life, none of them were mentioned in detail in "Scream of the Shalka" (video or book) and only hinted at in "Feast of Stone" as such, I generally don't go into details (too much headcanon). However, the Doctor has experienced enough that he can speak of fighting in a war (IE: any battle with Daleks or Cybermen), without talking about what specific war it is (IE: the one in which this companion died), so that is the approach I usually take.

On the more upbeat side, he loves classical music and musical theatre, so he might make random references or break in to singing bits of songs here and there.

His accent (and overall attitude) is "Queen's English" (posh British).

ABILITIES: The Doctor is a Time Lord and possesses all the abilities that any other Time Lord would. This includes regeneration and other healing capabilities. He also has a great amount of mental abilities, specifically, he's a telepath (touch telepath and has to work at it, which nerfs the ability quite a bit). He can sense the location of the TARDIS and knows when she is nearby. He is also time sensitive - he can tell the year and location simply by smelling the air. This Doctor is exceptional at picking locks, without the use of the sonic. In canon, each of these abilities is as likely to work as intended as not, so he is just as likely to be right as to be wrong. NOTE: There are pretty distinct differences about how powerful these abilities are for this Doctor. NuWho makes the Doctor far more powerful than ClassicWho ever did and this version is inline with ClassicWho Doctors. Whenever there is a discrepancy, I default to the ClassicWho understanding - for example: the fact that the Doctor (and companions) can understand any language on any planet was never explained in ClassicWho, it was just accepted as fact. So, if characters in game were to question him, he wouldn't have an overly scientific answer and probably say something like "I just can."

PERSONAL EFFECTS: Sonic Scewrdriver (As a Classic!Who screwdriver, it doesn't do much and he doesn't use it often, using his own skills and abilities which are far more reliable), Phone (TARDIS Shaped and is part of the TARDIS), various random practical items in his pockets (currency from various planets, string, circuit bits, a Gallifreyan 'Swiss Army Knife', matches, lock-picking objects, etc), remote control for Android!Master, 'huffer' (inhaler), the clothes he is wearing. He is dressed almost completely in black (Edwardian in style), save for an inverness (green) cloak (similar in style to one worn by the Third Doctor) and a white shirt. He has a black bowtie (Similar in style to the First Doctor), vest with smaller pockets, and a gold pocket watch with chain (attached to the vest).

IC Permissions:
Hugging: Sure, hugs are good for your health
Kissing: If it's beyond a friendly peck on the cheek or forehead, then close CR only, please.
Flirting: Go for it. But he doesn't necessarily intend to flirt back. (Unless there's something to be gained from it)
Fighting: If you must, but be prepared for him to fight back.
Injuring: Minor injuries are fine. Major, let's discuss first.
Killing: Let's discuss first.
Telepathy/Mind Reading: He's a touch-telepath and has many mental defences. He doesn't 'accidentally' use his telepathy and he'll ask first.

OOC Permissions:
Backtagging: Welcomed, encouraged, and can continue as long as players involved are interested.
Thread-Jacking: Party Posts and the like? Go for it. Otherwise, ask first, please.
Fourth Walling: Not sure how well it would work for him since he's an AU and while voiced by Richard E Grant, doesn't really look like him.
Universe Knowledge (Other Universes): A lot of what is fiction IRL universe is also fiction in the Whoniverse. Except those times when it isn't.
Whoniverse Knowledge: If your character is NOT from the Whoinverse but has knowledge of the Whoniverse beyond it being fiction, or Time Lords and TARDISes existing, then the Doctor will be very closed off and untrusting, don't expect such conversations to go over well with him. Again, NuWho characters will seem very strange to him and he won't know quite how to react to it, other than to EVENTUALLY accept them as an Alternate Universe from his POV. This applies to any history that is provided post-2003.
Offensive/Triggery subjects: I'll let you know if something comes up that bugs me. And the Doctor is pretty vocal about things that bug him.

OOC Contact:
Please reply to this post to discuss permissions, HMD, etc. All comments are screened

comments
